About

Dr. Gihan Gunawardena graduated from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, in 2001.

Dr. Gunawardena has practised for the previous 23 years in General Practice, specialising in particular within the fields of obstetrics and women’s health, acute medical care, and chronic disease management.

Dr. Gunawardena has a passion for working with allied health and medical practitioners to provide patients the best overall healthcare possible, and is a strong believer that good communication and ethical practice are important to achieving successful outcomes.

In addition to his role as a part-time GP, Dr. Gunawardena serves as a Senior Medical Officer for QLD Health and a Senior Lecturer for the School of Medicine at the University of Queensland.

His extensive experience in general practice, hospital settings, and academia enriches his approach to patient care. His non-medical interests include science and technology, energy, and innovation.
